Athletics day

Athletics sport day

Yesterday our school started to do athletics. Last week we were traing for yesterday to do athletics and to learn how to do it. The events that I did was Discus, high jump, long jump, sprints, long distance and shot put. I felt nervous starting athletics but once I did discus and high jump I started to feel much better. There was a rest station for two groups to have a rest. It was underneath our new hall or gymnaziam. I went good with some of them except for high jump and discus. I not really got at those but next year I should do better. My favourite part of the day was spending time outside enjoting athletics with freinds.  After we had finished everything we all went back to out classrooms and went home.

I hope you like this to leave some comments down below.
Pictures will be coming soon.

The Universe

W.A.L.T write about what we are doing

We have been doing some reports about stuff. I'm doing the Universe. The Universe is a fun thing to learn about. I quite like learning knew stuff everyday about the Universe.
Here it is. It may be long to read but I think it will be okay.

The Universe

Kia ora my name is Bailey and I am here to tell you about the universe. You may not know a lot about the universe ut soon you will because I am here to tell you how it stard, the planets, stars, constellations, galaxies, moons, comets, black holes, Nebulas and asteroids. It is a wonderful experience to learn about. I will be starting off with how it started.

How it started
People believe that the Universe started with a big bang. I also think that it started with a big bang is well. This is my opinion: I think that there was a massive star that was going to die. When that massive star was going to die I was thinking that it was going to blow up and create blackholes, other planets, galaxies, and moons.

The planets
There are lots of names for planets. There is the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The first four planets are made out of rock and metal. The planets at the back are called the gas giants. Uranus has been tipped on its side because of an asteroid passing by.

Stars
There are millions and millions of stars in the universe There are 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the universe. Stars are made out of hot hot gas. Stars are actually really big if you go near one. Stars can die and create new things that you haven't experienced yet.

Comets
Comets can come past every year at night. They shine bright in the sky while they shoot across the universe. If you are lucky enough to spot one you can quickly get a photo of it. Comets are very likely to land on Earth as they come closer and closer.

Asteroids
Whenever asteroids fly in space and get closer to Earth they start to heat up and fire starts to fly behind it as it would be getting closer and closer to Earth. Some asteroids are very small and some are very big. People say that asteroids had wiped out most of the dinosaurs that had lived long ago. Some asteroids can be very dangerous

Nebula
A nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases in space. Nebulas can be all sorts of colours. The colors of Nebulas can be Blue, red and green. Nebulas are very colorful and can be any color. Red, blue and green are the main colors that a nebula should be.

Black holes
Black holes are very dangerous. People say that there is a black hole in the middle of our Milky way. Planets Asteroids and comets can be sucked up maybe making the black hole bigger. Once you are in a black hole you may never get back out. Nobody knows where black holes lead but I think they lead to danger.

Sun
The sun is a gas giant. Flames flare from the inside out onto the outside of it. The Sun is the color Red, Orange and White. The sun is a very hot planet so I wouldn't go near it if I was you. The sun is not the biggest planet in the Universe. There are other suns and planets that look like suns in other galaxies with different names and different colors. If you go near the sun you will be turned into dust.

Mercury
Mercury is the first closest planet to the sun. Venus is the second closest to the sun and it is very hot. Mercury is the color dark gray almost like the moon. It gets its color from either the atmosphere or how it would look if you landed on it.

Venus
Venus is the second closest and hottest planet. Here’s this to think about: Why is Venus so hot when it is the second closest to the sun and not Mercury. Well the reason Venus is hotter than Mercury is because Venus’s atmosphere is made from carbon dioxide and because it has clouds of acids inside its atmosphere.

Earth
Earth as you should know is our wonderful home that we all live on. Earth is made out of rock and metal while all the bigger ones are made out of gas which calls them gas giants since they are the four biggest planets. Earth is the third closest planet to the sun which is good because the sun is a good space away if we were first or second because then we would be boiling. Earth has a lovely cocoon on the outside called its atmosphere so we can live because oxygen is not the only thing that keeps us living.

Mars
Mars is the Fourth closest to the sun which means I will be speaking into the gas giants. Mars is the color red from the iron oxide in its soil. Mars is about one-sixth the size of Earth. Mars is a small planet but not as small as pluto which is called a dwarf planet. Mars is next to the Asteroid belt which means Asteroids would come in thru there.

Jupiter
Jupiter is one of the gas giants that has a red spot on it. It is the fifth planet from the sun and is out of the Asteroid belt. Jupiter in one of its long white stripes can fit 23 or more Earths around it. Jupiter is called a gas giant because it has gas inside of it and because it is giant. Now the gas inside of it is hydrogen gas and helium gas like the sun. The planet is covered all in these colors. Thick red, brown yellow and white clouds.

Saturn
Saturn is also a gas giant and is the sixth planet from the sun. Saturn is a cold planet since it is far away from the sun. Saturn has rings around it  which is made out of rocks and ice. The color of Saturn is the color pale yellow with a hint of orange on it. The color of Saturn’s rings are pink, hues of grey and a hint of brown with it.

Uranus
Uranus is the color light blue with a cold atmosphere. Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun. Nobody could live on that planet for a day since it would be freezing cold. Uranus is far away from the sun which makes it freezing cold. Uranus is a very long way away from Earth.

Neptune
Neptune is the coldest planet out of Uranus and Saturn. Saturn has two spots on it. One at the bottom and one kind of in the middle. Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun which would  make it one of the coldest planets to what we would know. Neptune is a light and dark blue color.

Pluto
Pluto is a dwarf planet that has been formed very small from tiny pieces of dust. Pluto is called a dwarf planet because it is a very small planet. It used to be called a planet until researchers or scientist found out that it was far to small to be a planet so that is why they had to call it a dwarf planet. Pluto is the color dirty brown color that researchers have seen.

Conclusion
The two most interesting things that I have found out about the universe is Nebulas and black holes. The reason why I like them is because black holes can have nice backgrounds when you look at it and for the Nebula I like the colors and what they look like because they can be all sorts of patterns that match together.

Last week of swimming

Today is the last day going to Canturbury Swim School. Last week I made my first blogpost about my goal and other stuff. My goal was to not touch the floor when I was swimming. I havn't really acheived it yet but I will one day.  Going to Canturbury Swim School is a very educational place to go because if you don't know how to swim the people that work there can help you swim which is very helpful. In the past 4 years the people there have really helped me to swim better in the water. Today was the last day of swimming and on the last day of swimming we did water safety. Today we learned to do the survivour backstroke and we had to put our hands onto our shoulders and walk off the plank like a pirate ship. We also had to learn how to pull someone out of the water if the stuck in the water without getting pulled in to. Next we had to try and take off our tops of in the water without touching the ground.

Possum facts

            Possum facts
W.A.L.T write a thinglink or a mindmup about possums.

On Wednesday I started to make a thinglink about possums. I have got 5 facts on it that would be good if you went out into the woods or in the forest and you see a possum then you would know some of its facts. Possums would only come out at night because they hate the day light. I'm hoping that you would really leave a comment down below and enjoy the thinglink that I have made.

  1.  They are eating our native plants and killing them. The reason why possums are pests is because our native trees are being eaten and been dying.
  2. Slowly but surely possums are changing our forests for the worse
  3. In NZ the possum is free to eat eggs by ripping off the top with its claws. The reason why it is a bad thing is because the eggs may be native birds
  4. This is a bad thing because in NZ the possum is safe and in Australia the possum is in danger because there are predators to kill and feed.
  5. The eye helps the possum to see better in the dark and the reason why it is a problem is because when they are out at night they can hunt for food and kill while the animals are sleeping.

Swimming lessons

Canterbury Swim School

Yesterday Ako Ngatahi went swimming. We got changed at school and we hopped on a bus. It only took 2 minutes to get there and back. There were some people that had forgotton their swimming togs. My swimming instuctor is Jade. She is teaching the long lane. When we get in the long lane pool it is very cold but once we get used to it we start the warm up. We do half an hour of swimming and then we get out. The people that are in Jades group is Me, Aroha, Jasper, Jared, Lyan and Jessica B. We use our boards and then we use no boards. Next week we will be doing something else.
My goal is to stop putting my feet on the ground when I am swimming.

Here is a video of me.

Extravaganza

W.A.L.T write about our production

This term we have been doing an extravaganza performance. It is about NZ music month and when it started. We all are in diffrent kind of groups. I am in six months in a leaky boat. It is a very good group because when I stared out to the audiance once we have finished, they all started to clap loudly and very proudly. There were 6 people in my group performing beside me. It was in the Auditorium at 6:00 o,clock at night. At the end of our performance we did our last song which was called why does love do this to me. We had to be dancing our dance and getting a grove on. We were all practising how to sing why does love do this to me.

I hope you liked it and hope to leave a comment.
Pictures will be on here soon.
