Women in Victorian Britain

Women in Victorian society had one main role in life and that was to marry and to take part in their husbands interests and business but before marriage the women would have to learn housewife skills such as weaving, cooking, washing, and cleaning the house unless they were of a wealthy family. If they were wealthy they did not always have to learn these skills because their maids would take care of the household chores. Women were also not allowed to be educated or gain any knowledge out of the home because it was a ‘mans world’. Her place was at home where on a veritable pedestal if one could afford.

Women were denied the opportunity to work or even take part in a ‘mans world’ so they spent their formative lives in preparation for marriage. The women expected the men to take care of them and provide for them since they were unable to provide for themselves.

Victorian men expected women to possess feminine qualities as well as innocence or else they would not be ‘marriage potential’.  Innocence was demanded from the girls in the class and they must not only be innocent but shall also give the impression of being innocent.

If a man or woman did not possess desirable qualities by the Victorian society then the opposite sex may have dismissed the person as an unsuitable mate.

The expectations men had for women caused them to prepare themselves for marriage and gave women hardly any freedom at all. The men’s expectations had pressured women to be the ideal Victorian woman society had always expected them to be. The women had to prepare for what was to come of their lives and it determined their future and if a woman did not meet up with the expectations of the Victorian male she would then end up unmarried/single.

Just as men had expectations for the ideal Victorian women, the women and the rest of society had expectations for the ideal Victorian man.

ICT

My Semester in ICT
Summary blog post

During this semester we have learned multiple things using an HP desk computer. In the first term, we learned about cybersafety and Basic document layouts, etc.

What we were learning in term 1

Last term we learned many things. One of my favorites from the last term was when we were doing basic designing which was when we did these Disney posters and Kids eat free. The way we had to design it was by following a piece of paper and designing for ourselves such as changing the font, using different shapes and sizes, and different coloring. I think we had to make 3 or 4 each but I think I only ended up making 3 of the Disney one and 2 of the kids eat free. This was split into 2 parts and we all did these in different weeks.

One of the things that we did that term was learning about cyber safety and after we had learned more about it we had to create a Kahoot. We got assigned work on typing.com that we had to do where we had to answer. Here is the Kahoot that I had made.

What we were learning in term 2

Word Document

During the time that we were using Pronto books, we were learning how to break our texts and put them into columns. I don't actually remember a whole lot from this since it was from the very start of the term and we have learnt heaps of other things after this. Some of the work from the pronto book that we had to do was Bonsai and At the movies.

Publisher

When using publisher we were learning how to make calendars. We had to start from scratch. I learned how to add a picture and make it as a background. publisher was a simple app and it was almost like google slides but it just had more features to it. Using publisher it was easy to present work like how we made a calendar and the app publisher was very helpful because everything I needed was on there. our task was to make a 2021 calendar but unfortunately, I didn't get to finish it all because I forgot to save it so it all deleted on me. I added photos into my calendar, and it was based on cherry blossoms.

Excel

The last tool that we used for this was excel.  In my opinion, excel was one of my favorites out of all of the tools that we had learned beforeUsing Excel We learned how to merge texts, Auto sum (where the computer will answer the question for you whether it's multiplication or times), and more. This was probably one of the more challenging tools we used but it was also one of the more exciting tools. But here is the work that I worked on in excel.

Conclusion:
So it has come to an end to the first semester of ICT. ICT was full of work, but I am happy that I choose it because I got to learn many things using different tools on Microsoft. My favorite thing that we did in ICT was using excel and publisher. To sum it all up and think that this term of ICT was very helpful and also very fun.

Restore our earth

Hi guys and welcome back to another blog post for this year. Today I will be talking about something that we did in wananga called 'Restore our earth' where we had to read a text and answer questions.

  1. Which of the following are not caused by Human activity?

           Volcanos

  • 2015 around 190 countries signed the Paris agreement

  • 2030 salads of petrol and diesel will end in the UK

  • 2019 and area of forest size of a football field  was cut down each year

  • 1970 it began in the us

  1. Find and copy one word which shows that climate change on earth is not caused by Nature? Endangered: At the risk of being extinct.

  1. Fill in the missing words: Trees produce valuable oxygen and help absorb Co2  from the atmosphere.

  1. How much Plastic is currently on earth? about 9 billion tons

  1. Reforestation: Reforestation helps absorb carbon dioxide and helps restore the habitats of many animals.

  1. Widely manufactured: lots of people make it.

  1. Paris agreement: I think they choose to sign the agreement because people want to help make the earth a better, cleaner, and safer place.

  1. Summary: I think that it is very important to restore our world because if climate change starts to change more it would affect our living space and life, and we want our oceans and forests to be clean.

Rising water experiment

Equipment-

Petri dish
Water
Candle
Vase/Cup
Matches or a lighter

Steps-

Get all of your equipment and set it up
Put the candle inside one side of the petri dish (preferably the higher side)
Fill the dish up with water but enough so it doesn't overflow the candle or the sides
Light your candle on fire with either a lighter or matches
Put the cup on top of the candle and watch what happens.

Aim: To see what happens to the water level when the candle is covered.

Hypothesis:

What do you predict will happen? Idk

Results: The water rose when the cup was put on top of the petri dish and the candle blew out and rose too.

What did you see happen in detail? I saw the water rise and the candle blow out.

When you did what? When the candle was lit.

Conclusion/why

In conclusion, the experiment worked well. IdkRising water experiment : Fizzics Education

Samoan Language week

Talofa! The first of June marks beautiful Samoa’s Independence Day and it’s time to celebrate this proud Polynesian nation’s culture and heritage. Samoa is one of the most unique destinations for Pacific island-lovers, and a paradise in which travelers will uncover plenty more than gorgeous white-sand beaches and crystal clear lagoons. In honor of Samoa’s birthday, here are some interesting facts about Samoa.

This country is located in the Pacific Ocean south of the equator. Samoa is located in Oceania.

Samoa belongs to the Polynesian islands. The group of islands lie halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand.

Samoa consists of two main islands called Savaìi and Upolu and several smaller islands and islets.

The largest island of Samoa is Savaìi and the most populated island is Upolu. These islands are of volcanic origin.

About sixty percent of the country is forested.

The highest peak is Mount Silisili, also called Mauga Silisili with a height of 1,858 m/ 6096 ft.

The capital city is called Apia and is home to about 38,000 people.

Crystallization

Last week in science we made crystals using borax to see how they would separate and form from two different substances.

Aim - what was the purpose of crystallization?

To use crystallization to separate borax from water.

Results - the results weren't what I had expected them to be. I had thought that maybe the crystals would have grown bigger but they were really small. The crystals that had formed on the pipe cleaner grew big and on the bottom but when they broke off they were small.

Conclusion - We dissolve the borax in the water. We made a concentrated solution and using crystallization we separated the borax from the water.

Solute borax

Solvent water

Equipment - beaker, heat mat, tripod, spatula, Gauze mat, bunsen burner, borax, pipe cleaner

Methos - boil water in a beaker on a gauze mat and tripod over a bunsen burner. when boiled turn the gas off. Add spatula heaps of borax, waiting for it to dissolve until adding more. When the solution is saturated leave to cool with a pipe cleaner suspended in the beaker

Discussion - where do crystallization useful in the real world? why do crystals make interesting shapes?

To make salt and sugar. Jewelry included.
