Hurumanu-Solar energy

Aim: To find out which colour attracts the suns heat.

Hypothesis: I think that the black will attract the suns heat because the sun absorbs dark colours.

Materials:

  1.  Lamp
  2.  Tinfoil
  3.  3 cups, 2 styrofoam cups and one clear cup
  4.  water
  5.  plastic bag
  6. thermometer
  7. Paper
  8. Heat lamp

Steps

  1.  Get all the materials from the teacher
  2.  Wrap tin foil in one of the white cups
  3.  Wrap clear cup in 30ms of black bag/ needs to be cut. leave one cup
  4.  Add in a quarter of water into the cup
  5. Turn on the heat lamp and wait for 15m, 30m and 45m
  6. Wait 15 minutes and then put in the thermometer for one minute on each
Findings: This photo shows the cups heating up. Right now the black is the highest and the tinfoil is the least. The light needs to be shining on all of them so that all of them heat up.

Solar Energy

Aim

To see which colour attracts the suns heat the most.

Hypothesis

I think that black will attract the suns heat because the sun absorbs dark colours

Materials

  1. White Paper
  2. White cup
  3. Black plastic
  4. Clear plastic cup
  5. Black plastic cover
  6. Tinfoil
  7. Silver cup
  8. 100mls water
  9. Thermometer
  10. Heat lamp
  11. Timer

Steps

  1. Get all of the materials from the teacher
  2.   Cover one cup in tinfoil and the other in the black plastic cover
  3.   Place the white paper on the table as well as the black plastic bag and the ripped tin foil
  4. Pour the water into the cup so that it reaches a quarter of the cup
  5.   Set up the lamp and shine it on all 3 cups
  6.  Wait for 15m and then put the  thermometer in one of the cups
  7. Wait and other 15m after you have put the thermometer in each of the cups for a minute
  8. Wait for another last 15m and do the same again.
  9. Write down the temp when each minute passes for that cup.

Data/Finding

The tinfoil cup heated up the least and the blck cup heated up the most.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my findings are that black absorbs the suns heat. I never knew that before. I found out that the tinfoil doesn’t heat up the most because the sun doesn’t get attracted to the colour silver.
